By downloading, installing, or using the StudyEngine application and related services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and StudyEngine ("we," "us," or "our").

2. Description of Service

StudyEngine is a smart study planning application that provides:

• Book and Chapter Management: Organize your study materials with books and chapters.
• Smart Study Scheduling: Automated study session scheduling based on your availability, preferences, and reading speed.
• Progress Tracking: Track your study progress, completion rates, and page counts.
• Study Streaks and Achievements: Gamified motivation through streaks and achievement badges.
• Push Notifications: Configurable reminders for study sessions, streaks, and achievements.
• Academic Profile: Create an academic profile with your role, institution, and study interests.
• Public Profile Discovery: Optional feature to discover and connect with other learners.
• Cross-Device Sync: Synchronize your study data across multiple devices.

3. Account Registration

To use StudyEngine, you must:

• Sign in using a valid Google account
• Be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction)
• Provide accurate and complete information
• Maintain the security and confidentiality of your account credentials

You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, please contact us immediately at [email protected].

4. User Responsibilities

When using StudyEngine, you agree to:

• Use the Service only for lawful purposes and in compliance with all applicable laws
• Provide accurate and truthful information in your profile and academic details
• Not impersonate other users or provide false academic credentials
• Not attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or compromise the Service or its systems
• Not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
• Not use automated systems, bots, or scripts to access the Service without authorization
• Not violate any applicable laws, regulations, or third-party rights
• Not upload malicious content or attempt to compromise system security
• Respect the privacy, intellectual property, and rights of other users
• Not engage in harassment, bullying, or abusive behavior toward other users

5. User Content

You retain ownership of all content you create within StudyEngine, including:

• Book titles and descriptions
• Chapter information and notes
• Study plans and schedules
• Progress data and achievements
• Academic profile information
• Bio and research interests

By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, display, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you and improving our offerings.

5.1 Public Content

If you enable public profile visibility, you grant us permission to display certain information (as described in our Privacy Policy) to other users of the Service. You are responsible for ensuring that any information you make public is accurate, lawful, and does not violate the rights of others.

6. Public Profile and Discovery Features

StudyEngine offers optional features that allow users to discover and connect with other learners:

6.1 Profile Visibility

You can choose to make your profile public, allowing other users to find you based on your academic profile. This feature is opt-in and disabled by default. You may change your privacy settings at any time.

6.2 Acceptable Use

When using discovery features, you agree to:

• Use the feature for legitimate academic and professional networking purposes only
• Not use the feature for harassment, spam, threats, or unsolicited or unwanted contact
• Not collect, scrape, or extract user data from public profiles without permission
• Not use automated tools to access or manipulate profile information
• Respect other users' privacy preferences and settings

6.3 Content Standards

Information in your public profile must:

• Be accurate and not misleading
• Not contain offensive, discriminatory, hateful, or inappropriate content
• Not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others
• Comply with all applicable laws and regulations

7. Push Notifications

By registering a device for push notifications, you agree to receive notifications from StudyEngine. You can manage notification preferences at any time through the app settings or disable notifications on your device. We may send:

• Study session reminders and warnings
• Streak maintenance alerts and encouragement
• Achievement and milestone notifications
• Schedule update notifications
• Weekly progress digests and summaries
• Important service announcements and security alerts

We are not responsible for notification delivery failures due to device settings, network conditions, or third-party limitations.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content (excluding user content), features, and functionality are owned by StudyEngine and protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not:

• Copy, modify, or distribute the Service without our written permission
• Use our trademarks, logos, or branding without prior authorization
• Create derivative works or adaptations based on the Service
• Use the Service to develop competing products or services

9. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. You acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

10. Service Availability and Limitations

We strive to provide reliable and uninterrupted service, but we do not guarantee:

• Uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation of the Service
• That defects, bugs, or vulnerabilities will be corrected
• That the Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations
• Delivery of all push notifications (delivery depends on device and network conditions)
• That data synchronization will be instantaneous or always complete

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any portion thereof) at any time with or without notice. We will attempt to provide reasonable notice for significant changes.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

The Service integrates with third-party services, including:

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

We do not warrant that the Service will be secure, free from bugs, viruses, or malware, or operate without interruption or delays.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STUDYENGINE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages
• Loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill
• Service interruption, loss of data, or account deletion
• Missed study sessions, reminders, or notifications due to delivery failures
• Any damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service
• Actions, omissions, or conduct of other users on the platform
• Errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in the Service

Our total liability for any claim arising from or relating to this agreement shall not exceed the total amount you paid to StudyEngine in the 12 months preceding the claim.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StudyEngine and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from any claims, demands, losses, liabilities, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from or related to:

• Your use of the Service
• Your violation of these Terms or applicable laws
• Your violation of any rights of another party
• Content you create, upload, or make public on the Service
• Your interaction with other users

15. Termination and Account Management

We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, if you materially breach these Terms or engage in behavior that we determine is harmful, illegal, or threatens the integrity of the Service or rights of other users.

You may manage your account at any time:

• Deactivation: Temporarily disable your account while preserving your data (can be reactivated within 30 days)
• Deletion: Permanently delete your account and all associated data

Upon termination:

• Your right to use the Service will cease immediately
• Your data will be deleted within 30 days (unless required by law to retain)
• Provisions that by nature should survive termination will remain in effect (e.g., Indemnification, Limitation of Liability)

16. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of significant changes by:

• Posting the updated Terms on this page
• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document
• Sending a notification through the app (for material or substantial changes)

Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service.

17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. You agree that any disputes, claims, or controversies arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of competent jurisdiction as applicable by law.

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other policies referenced herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and StudyEngine regarding the use of the Service and supersede all prior and contemporaneous agreements and understandings.

20. Waiver and Severability

Our failure to enforce any right or provision in these Terms will not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. If any provision is found to be invalid, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
